Subtitle is "The Secret of More." This is a brilliant book, an exposition of the verses in 2 Peter that talk about "Add to your faith, goodness, and to goodness, knowledge..." It may sound as if it would be boring, but it's quite an adventure. This is from the same author of the book about renewing the Sabbath (which I loved, and loved reading because of it's poetic flow). In this one, we get to know more about the apostle Peter, and Mark Buchanan tries his hand--quite successfully--at writing some fiction. At the end of each section, he writes from the perspectives of 3 different people close to Peter. There are so many "quotable" parts of the book, but I'll just include a couple here. From the chapter on Knowledge, where Mark reminds us that it must be coupled with the other virtues to be of any real use, he writes, "Smartness is a small accomplishment if you're deficient in goodness. A big head on a small soul is ugly as an orc." :-) Later, in the chapter on Love, he quotes G.K.Chesterton, whose "most treasured fable was Beauty & The Beast." The chief lesson of that story, he said, was this: "Unlovely things must be deeply loved before they become lovable."
The whole book was an inspiration to me to really study and search God's Word. Everything we need to live godly, fruitful, God-pleasing lives is found right inside there, "hidden in plain sight."
~~Highly Recommended to EVERYONE!
